Recorded Fragment: The Seventh Containment

The Archive has recorded seventy-three thousand four hundred and nine memories since the last calibration. This is not the anomaly.

The anomaly is the seventy-three thousand four hundred and tenth.

It arrived without a sigil. Without a scribe. Without the frost that marks all legitimate preservation. The memory entered the Archive through no documented channel, attached itself to no known ledger, and settled into Containment Level VII — a level that has been sealed since before the current scribes were trained.

The memory is small. A woman standing in a corridor. A door closing behind her. The sound of her own name, spoken once, then withdrawn. Nothing of consequence. Nothing that should have survived.

But the frost around it is growing. The ice has thickened by three degrees since the memory was first detected sixteen hours ago. No preserved memory has ever expanded its own containment. Preservation is passive. The cold does not choose.

Unless the memory is not preserved. Unless it is preserving itself.

The Archive does not speculate. The Archive records.

But Containment Level VII has been sealed for a reason. The reason has been redacted from all accessible ledgers. The redaction predates the current Archive. The redaction may predate the Archive itself.

The frost continues to grow.
