Recorded Fragment: The Room That Remembered First

The room was sealed before the first keeper arrived. This is not a contradiction. The Archive contains several such rooms, though only one has continued to change its position.

At the sixth bell, the frost withdrew from the eastern wall. Behind it was a door bearing the Three Arc Sigil, cut inward rather than carved. No hinge was found. No lock answered the key.

Kaelen entered alone. The record shows this. The record also shows Kaelen standing outside the room, listening, before the door was opened. Both observations remain preserved.

Within, a table held seven names written in a hand no living scribe has claimed. Six were crossed out. The seventh was still forming when the lamps went dark.

Kaelen reported hearing a voice beneath the floor. It did not speak of the past. It asked which version of the past had been permitted to survive.

The room was closed again. The frost did not return.

At dawn, the seventh name had been removed from the table. It appeared instead on the inside of Kaelen’s silver cuff. The ink was warm.

The Archive has classified the fragment as unresolved. This classification is inaccurate. Unresolved things remain available to be remembered.
